My mom have a big chain smoke addiction she even smokes cigars daily, is someone having the same problem?
My mom is 50 years old heavy chain-smoking woman for years. She is on her 3 packs a day habit with no intense to quit or cut it down. She is smoking for about 25 years, and she is always with a ciggie in her mouth smoking like a chimney and every day she smokes more and more. She also likes to smoke two cigs at once saying that she really needs to smoke more to feel good. In a recent years she started to smoke cigars on a daily purpose, she is really deeply inhaling them and says that she likes big smoke that fills her inside. She has a female friends about her age, who also smokes a lot and when they come to our house it is smoke everywhere i'm almost out of breath.
And my mom changed a lot. She looks older than she is, she got wrinkles on her face too early, she has a yellow tar stained teeth and very bad breath, she is always coughing a lot and constantly out of breath, sometimes i noticed that she is feeling dizzy, but she says she is ok. It is a big problem, but not one that you can control. I too am a smoker, not 3packs a day, but a smoker for 35yrs. I too am 50, and my mother recently died from lung cancer, after smoking for 60yrs. She was a very heavy smoker like your mom, and yes, she likely is coughing and constantly out of breath. She very likely has COPD, a chronic condition that involves chronic broncitis, probably why the constant coughing and breath shortness. There is no cure for COPD, medications to help ease the symptoms. As for your mother stopping, there is nothing you can do to make her quit, you can beg, show her horrible pictures of lungs choking for air, none of that will stop her. She has to be the one who decides she is done with it, and unfortunately, she may never be. You may be able to show her pictures of herself in her "better" days, and let her know you are afraid of losing her, yes she may feel guilty and may truly want to quit. It is very difficult, but it can be done. I have tried three times in the past year or so to quit, I haven't yet..........................but I will someday, I watched my mom suffocate and I know I don't want to go that way. You can let her know every day how much you love her, don't let a day go by without letting her know, tell her of your fear of losing her. Nicotine addiction is evil, and your mom probably started smoking very young( I was 12). She is highly addicted, and will need lots of motivation and support to quit, but the first step has to be hers, if she doesn't want to quit and simply won't happen. While I feel motivated, the addiction is strong. For me, I'm cutting back and that seems to be working for me, in time, I hope to be cig free in the next year and spare my children from seeing me suffocate. Share your letter and my response with your mom, maybe it can be your first step, or hers. Good luck
