5 Simple Steps For Great Abs and a Tight Core

We've seen it so many times; the television commercials with the hot chick and the hard bodied guy. We've heard all of the propaganda-ish ads on the radio by the loud mouth dude, who probably has a lard belly himself. Forget all the fancy marketing schemes, the machines, and save your money, for you are about to learn * simple ways to develop a tight core.

Step 1.

First of all understand that for great abs, you have to be a person of great dedication. If you desire to have a tight core you must map out a daily schedule that you can, and will, stick to. When it comes to any type of exercise, most people expect results minus the consistency of work.

We have been so conditioned to instant gratification that we set ourselves up sometimes if we don't accomplish our goals. Also, you must realize that not all metabolisms are created equal. Some may take longer than others to get a tight core. But as long as you have the mental capacity to remain steadfast, you have already completed the real work.

Step 2.

Ok, so not really. For great abs you have to put in more work than that. Make sure that you have an open area in your home that you can call your home for the next few months. Like a floor. Get yourself a pillow so that you can place it underneath your lower back. If you actually want to spend the money, invest in one of those foam exercise mats. The obvious purpose for this is comfort. You want a tight core, and the last thing you need while exercising are painful interruptions. 

Step 3.

One of the best ways to get a tight core is what I will call, "leg raises." Lay down on the floor with your arms to your sides and put your ankles together. For great abs leg raises can be done almost effortlessly. You won't become drenched in sweat but your lower abdominals will really burn. This is especially great for women after they have given birth. As you're on the floor levitate your feet about six inches off the floor.

Leave them suspended for about four seconds, then lower them to the floor again. Do this repeatedly without relaxing for more than a second. When you're ready you can also spread your legs outward as your legs are suspended (simulating a scissor motion). When you're ready for advancement you can slowly raise your legs to a 90 degree angle then lower slowly again.

Step 4.

For great abs and a tight core "crunches" are your friend. They don't give you the back pains like a full sit up but they are just as effective (if not more). Crunches burn fat off your upper oblique muscles and they help you develop that coveted eight pack.

In the same position as you were in from Step 1, bring your knees up to a 90 degree angle. Cross your arms over your chest and lift your upper torso just enough to feel a burn in your upper oblique muscles. Don't worry about coming all the way up. Your objective here is short repetitions and a hasty range of movement.

Step 5.

Now that you are working your upper and lower oblique muscles a tight core is on its way. Your next concentration should be the sides of your torso. You can work these by laying on your sides on your bed. With your legs hanging half way off the bed, raise the top half of your body while maintaining your sideways position. You'll know if you're doing it right when your sides start to burn. Flip to the other side and do the inverse. Your external abdominal oblique muscles, or "wings", will complete your tight core.

Now to each is own. Some have different pain tolerances than others so know your limitations. Make a consistent schedule and do these exercises in sets that fit your comfort level. If you can try to invest in The Bean, because it did wonders for my wife of five kids. Of course, if you truly want a tight core you have to push yourself. You can do it, just stay committed and visualize yourself with that tight core you have always wanted.
