Exfoliate the Skin

The skin regularly sheds dead skin. But if left unremoved, these dead skin cells will cause a dull and rough appearance. Exfoliating on a regular basis is the most efficient and effective way to slough off the dead skin, for a soft and smooth appearance. Homemade scrubs include a paste made of baking soda and water or sugar and water. Homemade masks include fuller's earth or clay exfoliating solutions of alpha hydroxyl acids or AHAs. These include lactic acid found in milk, buttermilk and yogurt. Apply these to the skin with a cotton ball and then wash off.

Moisturizering

Another important remedy for softer skin is a lubricant. This helps to quickly soften skin. There are numerous skin lotions and skin moisturizers on the market. However, applying a thin lay of natural oils like olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or camellia oil can improve the skin's texture. Many commercial products already contain these oils. They work by maintaining the oils in the skin and inhibiting dryness. Apply these moisturizers when the skin is still damp to optimize absorption.

Drinking Water

Water keeps the skin hydrated. Filling the skin cells with water keeps skin soft and supple. It is not the oils but the water in the skin that keeps it hydrated. Drinking enough water each day is important for keeping the skin hydrated and also soft. The Ear Right website suggests drinking at least 8 cups of water each day. Drinking plenty of water and healthy liquids like fruit and vegetable juices also keep the skin cell plump. This plumpness helps to improve the skin texture.
Aloe Vera

Consider using aloe vera on your brown spots. Aloe vera has healing properties and it will help even out your complexion.

Vitamin E

Apply vitamin E oil to your spots. In addition, you may opt to take a vitamin E supplement. Vitamin E is considered an anti-oxidant. It fights free radicals, such as smoke and pollution.
