Is the laptop bag the modern day briefcase?
If you were to search through a man's briefcase 10 years ago you would have found numerous things. There would probably be at least a few folders filled with paper. A few notebooks, pens, pencils and other basic writing utensils. If you were lucky you may have found some type of PDA or other electronic device. You'd probably be able to find a pager of some sort. These all share one thing in common. They can all be completely and utterly be replaced by the laptop. Laptops combine technology from many different things. They are calculators, PDAs, computers, notebooks, presenters, etc. When you have a laptop you have an all in one device that is great for the everyday businessman.
So what does this mean for briefcases that were so common only a few years ago? Well they are pretty much out-dated. As the newest generation of businessmen come into the business world technology proves to be superior to old styles of business equipment. The younger generation is also savvier to technology which makes them much more apt to using it. Combine all of these factors and you have one archaic briefcase. They're good for some things but in general are obsolete pieces of technology.
Laptop bags have taken the place of briefcases. Laptop bags are to a briefcase as a laptop is to a notebook. Laptops are unfortunately very fragile. The hard drives located inside of them are made of moving parts and if any type of sudden G force is exerted on them they can break. With laptop cases this becomes almost a non-issue. The best way to avoid breaking a laptop is to not drop it at all. With laptop cases you get extra grip. They are oftentimes made of rubbery like materials that provide much more friction than the case of the laptop itself.
The next best way to avoid breaking a laptop is to protect it in case it's dropped. Sure, it's ideal to not drop the laptop at all. But life is full of unexpected surprises, sometimes drops are unavoidable. When you have a laptop bag that you carry your laptop in you have extra cushioning to break the fall of the laptop. It's not the fall that breaks the laptop. Rather, it's the sudden stop. When you have cushion breaking the fall you have an extra few milliseconds of stopping time, this extra time saves laptops.
The laptop bag is most definitely the modern day briefcase. Laptops have taken over the business world. It's rare to find a businessman without one. Therefore the laptop case has also taken over the business world. No longer do you need a large briefcase to tote all your stuff around in.

piston and rings for resleeved two stroke bikes?
Just want to know if the cylinder of a modern two stroke, say a 07 cr125, is resleeved, is it ok to still use the original piston and rings? My concern is because before resleeving, the cylinder wall is aluminum with plating, but after resleeving, I think the material of the cylinder wall becomes steel. I think the friction properties may be different. The aftermarket pistons and rings like wiseco, do they specify what kind of cylinder is compatible to their pistons and rings???
It varies,,,most all the aftermarket mfgrs do specify whether compatible or not..
Many modern ring materials are OK with Steel Sleeves and the various platings
The Notorious Ring/cylinder combo of the past,,,
was the use of Chrome Plated Rings,in Chrome Plated Cylinders.
Chrome Bores were RARE once upon a time.
That situation allowed wide spread adoption of Chrome plated Rings.
Because any possible incompatibility of the 2 Like-Metals was very Unlikely.
Ring Technology advanced Past Chrome Age soon enough,,,with superior coatings and primary compounds showing advantages that exceeded chrome's benefits
Plated Bores were Never the Prob...it was the advent of Chrome Plated Rings which started the incompatibilty issues.
Chrome Rings are now somewhat obsolete.
Still,,,It's Always Wise to CONFIRM with Mfgr of Rings that their rings are OK with whatever Bore is to be used
Simple Rule of Thumb>>>
If Rings are OK for Plated Cyl Bore,,,they are OK with ANY Bore
Because that avoids the Same-Metal Clash.
If,,,,It's FOR Plated Bore,,, you KNOW it Cannot Be a Hard Plated Ring
A Ring for a Plated Bore is thus "universally compatible"
Too many People discuss the issue too often to the point it's become almost Folkore in a sense.
Most of the warnings & talk is by folks who didn't quite grasp the facts back in the day.
It's almost Ancient History these days,,,and hasnt been a real "threat" for maybe 30~40 years
Dont misunderstand what Im saying.
The issue IS Real,,,and is devastating,,,Certain ,total Destruction gauranteed.
That will hold True 1,000 years from now---Ya Cannot use Chrome Rings in a Chrome Bore.
But Nowdays and what parts are currently in use & available,,,,and the tech advances which have transpired,,
Make the ODDS of a Mismatch so improbable,,,the whole topic is almost a moot point
I would not tell anyone "Dont worry about it"
But if the Odds of a Mismatch were 1% Lower,,1% more Unlikely,,,
I would not have even bothered answering the question.
It's ALMOST not worth worrying about
