Hope for Sensitive Skin
What is Sensitive Skin?
"Sensitive skin," is a catchall term for disruptive skin conditions mediated by immune system response to allergens or irritants, or other factors like extremes in climate. Reactions may also be brought about by direct contact with an irritant such as those found in plants, detergents, perfumes, and other household items.
Skin sensitivity may present in the form of a rash, hives, dryness or scaling, redness, burning, or itching.
Who Suffers from Sensitive Skin?
While certain disease states like asthma may predispose a person to skin conditions, predictors of why some experience skin sensitivity and others do not appear to be limited. Studies are few, and have not adequately shown relevant links between skin sensitivity and any particular demographic. Women report greater skin sensitivity than men, but this difference may be attributable to the ratio of health and beauty products women use in contrast to men.
How Can Sensitivity Be Minimized?
People suffering from sensitive skin should take great pains to protect themselves from reaction triggers. Grooming products with heavy fragrances or dyes should be avoided. Harsh household products may be rejected in favor of natural, irritant- free agents. Certain foods may even need to be off limits.
Caring for Sensitive Skin
Sensitive individuals must be especially diligent in the use of skin care products. Many products routinely contain potential irritants in the form of acids, alcohols, preservatives, or fragrances.
In addition to avoiding triggers, individuals with skin sensitivity may wish to use products specifically designed to minimize irritation and promote healing.
Avene skin care offers a line of irritant-free cleansers, toners, moisturizers, and restoratives for hypersensitive or intolerant skin. In addition, most products contain minimal ingredients to lessen the potential for irritation. Many Avene products are mild enough to be used on infants.
The cornerstone of the Avene regimen is the application of a hydrating mist of thermal spring water from France. Local legend holds that horses utilizing the spring emerge with shinier, healthier coats. The spring water is available in a convenient micronized spray, and may be used as a moisturizer or toner. It is hypoallergenic, will not clog pores, and may be used often if desired.
Kinerase products offer the benefits of botanical nutrients. Kinetin, a protein found in plants, is responsible for regulating plant moisture. Kinerase products similarly aid in the hydration of skin, leaving it softer and more youthful. All of the Kinerase products are very mild, and free of irritants. Some also contain soothing anti-oxidants like green and white tea.
Both products are available for use under care of a physician or at home.
Allergic reactions occur in many Americans. Skin sensitivity resulting from such allergies affects males, females, young, and old alike. Sensitive individuals should select skin care regimens that are irritant-free, yet provide adequate care. The Avene and Kinerase lines offer products with cleansing, moisturizing, and restorative benefits for even the most sensitive skin issues.

My skin care regimen...Am I doing it right?
Ok So here is what I do on a nightly basis, and morning basis. But I do shave every other night sometimes every night.
1. 7 day Exfoliating scrub by clinique
2. Redness prone wash by clinique
3. Hydrating antioxidant mist by kinerase
4. Truth Serum by ole henrikesen
5. Retinol (Retin-a) (prescription kind)
6. 5 in 1 moisturizer by First Aid beauty
7. ultimate lift eye gel by ole henriksen
Do I need to switch any of these steps around? I do this same routine every night and every morning ,EXCEPT I do not use the retinol in the A.M. and I do not shave in the A.M.
The main thing I would say I'd DO NOT EXFOLIATE EVERY DAY!! Its so bad for your skin, its there to protect your insides, and you're scrubbing the top layer off every morning. I would say only use the exfoliator every 2-3 days, maybe even less. I dont see the point of a hydrating antioxidant mist, nothing you put on the outside of the skin will enter the inside-nothing can penetrate the skin, because our skin is meant to protect our insides.
Overall, id say your doing well and using really good high end brands. Make sure you apply more moisturiser to the shaved part of your face, because shaving exfoliates the skin so you need to add moisture to it. Also, make sure that you take care to exfoliate the shaved part of your skin, because shaving can lead to ingrown hairs and exfoliation helps remove them
Hope I helped (: xo
