Perfumes - A Quick Guide To Chypre Fragrances
Rich and extravagant Chypre perfumes are based on woody, flowery, mossy notes with blends of Sandalwood, Pine, Cedar, Patchouli, Vetiver and Pine. These perfumes have been created with nature in mind and originated in 1917 and named after the fragrance Chypre created by Coty.
When Chypre (Cyprus) was created by Coty in 1917 it had top notes of citrus and end notes of pungent oak moss mingling with a heart of rose & jasmine. With time, however, perfume houses have evolved chypre perfumes and created some exquisite fragrances which are now categorized under the mossy-wood range and widely available in the market.

Mitsouko by Guerlain
One of the great perfumes by Guerlain, Mitsouko is a refined Chypre perfume that has been blended with lush ripe peaches and spicy notes, a heart of mossy woods which starts off on a cool note but ends seductive and intense. A rich and elegant perfume with a wonderful balance of fragrances. Created in 1919, Hollywood Jean Harlow wore it as well as Charlie Chaplin. It featured as worn by Catherine Deneuve in the film, Belle de Jour.
Chypre perfumes are generally dry due to its wood moss mixes such as sandalwood and earth moss. These fragrances however are rich and long lasting and are ideal for someone who prefers an unusual fragrance.
