Think Twice Before You Buy Your Next Face Cream
Why do you think that there are several lobby groups campaigning for safer cosmetics? Just look at a report just published which states that chemicals from cosmetics and perfumes were found in the umbilical cords of infants from African American, Asian and Latino backgrounds who were born in the USA! Most people associate dangers of cosmetics with plastic surgery or Botox injections, but as we can see from the two examples above, there is now an urgency about knowing what to buy and why we need to be more careful before we purchase the next jar of face cream.
California law changes
There was a lot of lobbying by women's groups to get the Californian law changed about what goes into cosmetics. A teenager who was involved in the successful campaign wrote an article about her efforts. She was shocked when she did some research and found that one of the ingredients in the mascara she regularly used was also used to clean wheels on aeroplanes! But perhaps the biggest shock of all was the fact that the FDA does not test cosmetics for harmful ingredients as its brief is strictly limited to drugs and food items.
What ingredients do we need to avoid like the plague?
Usually petrochemicals are regarded with suspicion and there are links to cancer and other serious diseases. It is alarming to read that about 95% of perfume ingredients are actually derived from petrochemicals. As regards face creams, phthalates such as Di-ethyl phthalate (DEP) and Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) should be avoided as they disrupt the functioning of vital organs such as the thyroid, pituitary, pancreas glands, just to name a few.
Then there are a whole range of parabens and alcohols such as ethanol, ethyl alcohol, methanol, benzyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol and SD alcohol. Alcohols disturb the delicate balance of acidity on our skin and that can lead to all sorts of blemishes and viruses so they should never be put in a face cream. It is alarming to know that the best face cream on the market still contains these potentially harmful ingredients!

Sothys beauty products?
I have some new Sothys Paris face products, and I'm a bit confused about which order I use them - can anyone help?
The ones I'm confused about are the Normalizing Lotion, the Normalizing Beauty Milk, and the Gommage exfoliant. (I also have the Desquacrem which I'm to use twice a week), and the Softening Emulsion (moisturiser)
Can anyone tell me which order I am supposed to use them in?

A good beauty routine to follow twice a day is
Cleanse
Tone
Moisturize
So with these products you have,
Use the Normalizing Beauty Milk - cleanser first to clean your face
then use Normalizing Lotion - toner to tighten your pores and to also complete the cleansing process.
then use the Softening Emulsion (moisturizer) to finish your ritual.
Use the Gommage Exfoliant - once in 2 or 3 days. After make-up removal, apply a small amount of product on a well dried-off face avoiding sensitive areas. Leave it on for 1-minute to penetrate. Then, with fingertips, rub in the exfoliant with small circular motion until it is fully removed. - if you use it too often, it might form microscopic cuts on your face that will lead to skin problems later in life.
And of course your Desquacrem - use it instead of your cleanser twice a week, on days that you dont use the exfoliant.
