The Lawsuit Because Of Beauty

There are certain beauty procedures with which laws in the state of Texas is very clear. This include the requirement of licenses for people who are in the practice of salons who wave, tint, style, straighten, singe, shape, shampoo, process, dye, dress, cut, color, cleanse, bleach perform other procedures on hair. However, when it comes to hair-removal procedures, the rules regarding this are still inadequate. Beauticians who practice eyebrow-tweezing and hair removal through waxing are required to be licensed. When it comes to threading however, the laws are still vague.

Threading is ancient procedure which had its origins in ancient families in the Middle East and Asia. This is done by using fast-moving loops of sewing thread to remove unwanted hair from the eyebrows and other parts of the hair. According to Ash Patel, “It’s faster and cheaper and less painful than waxing.” Threading has increasingly become popular in Texas, with the Patel signing leases to open eight threading parlors throughout the state. Last Tuesday however, Patel and a number of other salon owners sued the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, claiming that the state agency was being a hindrance to their business.

Because of a state provision that requires licenses for beauticians who use mechanical tweezers, the agency has required that threaders take from 750 to 1,500 hours of cosmetology training. Salon owners argue that the aforementioned cosmetology training required usually does not include a class on threading. The beauticians must then take a state exam before they can start any hair removal procedure. However, the state exam required for cosmetology doesn’t have a test to include once ability to thread hair. During the past year, the agency has already cracked down on threaders, fining more than 60 salons that didn’t have the proper license.

Patel said that finding qualified threaders, who usually charge $10 per session can be difficult. “If a license is required, they are almost impossible to find” he said. According to the suit filed by the salon owners, threading does not need to be regulated since it does not pose harm to the safety or health of the general public. Some of the most popular beauty treatments in the salon include the amatokin treatment using the amatokin solution which promises to reduce the appearance of serious wrinkles with its powerful emulsion. In these days when everybody puts a premium on physical beauty, everyone would go to great lengths to achieve it.
